What are the valve fittings and why should we use them?

Valve fittings are the connecting components — elbows, tees, couplings, adaptors, unions and compression fittings — that join valves to pipework and to one another. Rather than the valve itself, a fitting's job is to make a secure, leak-free transition between pipe runs of different sizes, materials or thread standards (such as BSP, NPT or metric), and to allow a system to change direction or branch off without losing pressure integrity. Good fittings matter because a system is only as reliable as its weakest joint: an undersized or poorly matched fitting can cause slow leaks, pressure loss, or premature valve wear.
